I highly doubt the band would re-record parts of the song, so I'm guessing this was just a slick bit of editing for the soundtrack.

But can anyone give me some details about the following two "alternate" versions? The original 1975 version of "Sweet Emotion" from Toys in the Attic runs approx 4:34 and is probably the one most people are familiar with (unless you count the butchered 3:15 version from 1980's Greatest Hits comp).
